> Am using the time waiting for taxis and flight to the UK to catch up on the blog. So back to Belgium and the lovely town of Kampenhout. This is where we enjoyed the generous hospitality of Melde's parents, Marc and Nadine, and saw the town where Melde grew up. Kampenhout is only about 15 minutes from Brussels and is a centre of chicory farming. These days the farming is happening on a larger industrial scale, but Melde's grandfather Maurits (whom we also met) was a smaller scale farmer, one of many, in the recent past. Indeed Maurits, now in his 90's, still has a very large vegetable garden which he tends every day.
