Lunch with Ann & Clive

Met up with Ian's cousin Ann and her husband Clive yesterday in St Malo. Weather was cold, wet and windy, so our first priority was to find a cafe for lunch. We were too busy talking to properly check the menu outside. Big mistake! Prices were a bit high so we didn't do the long lunch there. And Clive said the mussels we're disappointing. (Speaking of which, I have been in mussel heaven here and eaten a lot! The pile of empty mussel shells must be stupendous around this part of France.)

Someone had mentioned ice creams, so we all got one and stood shivering under a market shelter getting progressively colder from the inside out. Finally took refuge in a cafe where we spun out the coffee and tea to last a good while.

Parking in or near St Malo is almost impossible, but Ann & Clive managed to nip into a newly vacated space near a sports Centre outside the walls. So we walked the 10 or so minutes to their car in the still windy cold weather.

Only with people of such warmth and vivacity as Ann could such conditions nevertheless be so enjoyable! #
